Game Analysis:
For a second straight night, the Phillies were victimized by something that has been a problem whenever they lose: leaving men on base. When you leave 11 men on base, something is not going right, an you're more than likely going to lose the ballgame. That's what happened to the Phillies last night, as they wasted a chance to get even in the series with the Marlins. When Ryan Howard goes 4-4, but has no RBI and only scores once, you know there's a problem.
Speaking of problems, Cole Hamels had better get his act together soon, if he can. He had another bad outing last night, giving up a leadoff home run in the first inning, then letting Cody Ross nail a two run shot off of him in the sixth on what proved to be his last pitch. He's been off all season, and at this point, it looks like it has to do more with his location than anything else. He's not spotting the ball right, and teams are just hitting him all over the place. It's frustrating for me, because this isn't the Cole Hamels from last year. Yes, Cliff Lee is here, and yes, J.A. Happ has been great, but the Phillies are going to need Cole to be back at 100% if they want to make a run in the playoffs this year.
Today, Jamie Moyer (10-8, 5.55 ERA) looks to salvage a win against Josh Johnson (10-2, 2.98 ERA). I'm not sure I like the Phils' chances today.
