Phillies Recap: Giants-4, Phillies-0

Game Recap:
Brad Penny pitched eight shutout innings as the Phillies were silenced by San Francisco last night.

What went right?

This shouldn't take long...

Jimmy Rollins was 2-4.

Jayson Werth was 1-2 with a walk.

Carlos Ruiz went 1-3.

What went wrong?

The rest of the offense picked up exactly one hit.

J.A. Happ didn't look sharp, allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out seven.

Game Analysis:

There really isn't that much to say about the game last night. The Phillies have been struggling a bit on offense lately, and last night compounded it. Brad Penny hadn't had a good start all season, and the Phillies let him go eight shutout innings. The Giants were hoping for five, six innings at most from him, which means they were basically giving the Phils the win last night. Could the Phillies take it? Nope, not even close.

Aside from the offensive struggles, this is two starts in a row now where J.A. Happ has taken the loss. The first one wasn't really his fault, but last night wasn't his best outing. He missed his spot on a couple of pitches, and the Giants took him deep. I'm not concerned yet, but it wasn't a good game for anyone last night, that's all.

Tonight, Pedro Martinez (2-0, 4.50 ERA) will hopefully not have to worry about rain as he battles Tim Lincecum (13-4, 2.33 ERA). It's old vs. new tonight...should be interesting.
