Game Analysis:

A day off and a trip home didn't seem to help the Phillies last night, as they got handled easily by the Rockies. Jamie Moyer struggled again and couldn't even make it out of the sixth inning. Now that the Phillies have found themselves in a situation where they're going to need to move a pitcher out of the starting rotation, Jamie's going to have to pick things up if he wants to stay in there. I know Rich Dubee's already said he's not going to move Jamie to the bullpen, but why would you take J.A. Happ out of the rotation and leave Moyer in there? It doesn't make much sense, especially when Jamie's getting lit up every other start. The Phillies are entering the stretch run now, and they need to be firing on all cylinders. If they bring a pitcher out there every five games that they know is going to get hit hard, then it's a problem.

Look, I love Jamie for everything he's done for the Phillies over the last two years, I really do. However, he's 46 years old and it doesn't look like he's got much left in the tank. He got his 250th win, and there's not much else left for him to do out on the field. I doubt he's going to want to walk away, but if the Phillies could convince him to take some kind of assistant pitching coach job, it would be for the best.

Of course, it didn't matter that much last night, since the Phillies couldn't get anything going on offense anyway. Jimmy Rollins gave them their best shot with a two run home run in the fifth inning, but after Ryan Howard struck out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, you could tell what kind of game it was going to be. The offense has hit another funk, and it needs to break out quickly. At least every other team in the division is struggling right now too, but if the Phillies keep slumping and the Braves or Marlins pick things up, this race could get a lot more interesting.

Tonight, J.A. Happ (7-2, 2.97 ERA) looks to end this skid as he goes against Jorge De La Rosa (9-7, 4.68 ERA).
