Bad news for the Flyers...injuries are back

Remember how I said that injuries weren't going to be a problem for the Flyers against the Devils? Well, forget that. Today, both Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne were basically declared out for the playoffs with broken right feet. That's right, both players were knocked out with the same injury, in the same game. It makes you think, doesn't it?

Regardless of the injuries, the Flyers are still up 3-1 in the series, and Gagne and Carter both didnt exactly contribute until the last game. I certainly don't think that this is going to make beating the Devils, or anyone else, any easier, but I still think that the Flyers can beat the Devils in one of the next three games. Right now, that's all that matters.

As of Friday, both Carter and Gagne are going in for surgery, with Gagne likely to be back in time for the Conference Finals, if the Flyers get that far. The best chance that the Flyers have would be to win Game 5 of the first round, giving both players a week off to recover while the rest of the team relaxes as well. On the plus side, both Claude Giroux and James vanRiemsdyk have a chance to really prove themselves in the next game and the next series potentially, as the Flyers look to finish off the Devils in Game 5.

I don't think this is a series or season ending injury for either player, I really don't. I think the Flyers can bounce back from both injuries to take the series, and from there, whatever happens, happens. If either Carter or Gagne comes back later in the playoffs, it would be nothing short of amazing, and the Flyers would benefit from it once again. Right now, this team is stll on the brink of knocking the Devils out of the playoffs, and that's wht is important.
