I hope LeSean McCoy is ready for some playing time...

Aside from Brian Dawkins being allowed to leave and the Sheldon Brown mess, the Eagles have had one of the best offseasons that I can remember. Of course, that all might be set to change now, since according to ESPN.com, Brian Westbrook is having surgery on his right ankle. While there seem to be conflicting reports on how long he could be out, the fact is that our number one running back is having ankle surgery, and is more than likely out until at least the start of training camp.

This puts the Eagles in a corner, as their only other options at running back are rookie LeSean McCoy and Lorenzo Booker, whose performance last season was not very good, and that's putting it nicely. If this turns out to be something that keeps Westbrook from being ready for the start of the season, it's going to be interesting. Hopefully, the Eagles will have him, but use him like LaDanian Tomlinson during the preseason. As far as I'm concerned, don't even let him on the field. Just have him practice, and make sure the ankle is ready to go for Week 1. If he can get to that point, I'll be happy. Of course, we are talking about a now 30 year old running back, but the fact still remains that Westbrook is the guy that makes the offense go.

Things were going so well before I read this story. I might just be making a big deal out of nothing, but every time you hear "ankle surgery" when it comes to a running back, you've got to pay attention. Anyway, hopefully this is a non issue once the season starts.
