The Phillies scuffled a bit this week, dropping two of three games to Cincinnati and two of their first three to the Pirates, but the week wasn't without some redeeming qualities. In the absence of Chase Utley and Placido Polanco, one of the bench players stepped up in a big way this week, and earned his first Phillie of the Week honors. This week's Phillie of the Week is:
Wilson freaking Valdez
In seven games this week, Valdez helped try and pick up the slack that the Phillies are leaving behind, hitting .320 with six runs batted in. He also showed a little bit of pop, hitting two home runs. With two of the big bats out of the lineup for a while, players like Valdez are going to have to get it done for the Phils, and this week, at least Valdez did.
