It took a while, but the 2010 NFL season schedule is out, and with it, we now know who the Eagles will be playing with Kevin Kolb under center for his first full season.
The first half of the schedule isn't too bad, with the Birds taking on the Packers at home to start the year, then travelling to Detroit and Jacksonville in back to back weeks. The Jaguars are the only team that Andy Reid hasn't beaten, so now he gets another chance to add the last NFL team to his list.
Then comes week four, which every fan will have circled, because Donovan McNabb comes back to Philadelphia as a member of the Washington Redskins in a game that isn't going to be broadcast in prime time, but on Fox at 4:15, giving it game of the week honors. That one will be fun. After that comes a road game at San Francisco, followed by a home game against the Falcons and a trip to Tennessee for the first time since the 2002 season. I like the placement of the bye week as well, as the Eagles get it in the middle of the season, which is perfect for finally getting a chance to rest, rather than the early bye that the Eagles have had the last few seasons.
After the bye, things get a little tougher, as the Eagles face off at home with the Indianapolis Colts, then face the Washington Redskins again on Monday Night Football, only to follow that game up with a Sunday Night Football game against the New York Giants in the same week. A trip to Chicago for the third straight season marks the only non prime time game in a five week span, as the Eagles play on the NFL Network against the Texans, and then on Sunday Night against the Dallas Cowboys before heading into a brutal final three games.
A road game against the Giants comes first, then two final home games are on the schedule. The Minnesota Vikings, with or without Brett Favre, come into town in the second to last week of the season, and then the Eagles close out the year against the Dallas Cowboys for the third straight season. Hopefully, this year ends more like 2008 than 2009, but right now, I don't want to bet on anything yet. I'm not even going to say what the Eagles' record is going to be this coming season, because the draft is still coming up, and anything can happen between now and the start of the season. I do like the schedule, though, as it isn't like the Birds will have a Death March at any point during the season, though the end of the year might be a rough one. Other than that, it looks like the team has a chance to get out to a fast start before the Kolb/McNabb showdown in Week 4. That's the game I'm looking forward to the most.
For now, the draft is all that matters. Round 1 is Thursday night, and that's when the fun is really going to get started.
